I'm NOT Alanis Morissette "You Oughta Know" Guy!

Alanis Morissette’s epic breakup anthem "You Oughta Know" was inspired by Dave Coulier, or so the urban legend goes. But was it really?

When you hear Coulier’s name, you either picture his epic mullet from Full House or the fact that Uncle Joey from Full House inspired "You Oughta Know."

That’s how associated he is with the song, widely believed to be inspired by him being an a–hole to Alanis. Dave is singing a different tune now, though.

In a recent interview, Coulier says that yes, he dated Alanis Morissette dated, but there’s no way he had anything to do with the 1995 smash hit.

"You know, it’s just funny to be the supposed subject of that song," he said. "First of all, the guy in that song is a real a-hole, so I don’t want to be that guy."

No one wants to be … but is he?

Coulier says that we all think this only because he inadvertently started what he now calls a myth by jokingly admitting to being the song’s subject.

At a red carpet event, "The press just wore me down and everybody wanted to know," he said. "So I said, ‘Yeah, all right, I’m the guy. There, I said it!’"

Except in a 2008 interview with the Calgary Herald, he admits to being overwhelmed when he first heard their breakup playing itself out on the radio.

"I said ‘Wow, this girl is angry,’" he told the newspaper. "I listened to the song over and over again and I said ‘I think I have really hurt this person.’"

Also, just this year, Full House co-star Bob Saget shared a memory that referred to one of the exact lines in that song, as it pertained to Coulier.

"I was at [Dave’s] house and he said, ‘Alanis just hung up on me and said sorry for calling during dinner’ … I was at his house when she said that to him!"

In "You Oughta Know," Morissette famously snarls at Coulier (or whomever), among many other gems, "I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner."

Sounds like revisionist history on the part of Coulier, now 54, over his sordid past with Alanis, 40, which he has admitted multiple times before.

We know you feel guilty, but we’re not buying it, Uncle Joey.
