21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has undoubtedly been an icon and a legend of the sport. The Serbian currently holds the record for having spent the most weeks as World No. 1 on the ATP Tour with 373 weeks to his name having overtaken Roger Federer‘s record of 310 weeks. He is also the most decorated champion in the ATP Masters competition with 38 titles to his name.

Having grown up when Serbia was in a war, Djokovic’s rise to the top is an inspiration to many upcoming athletes with the tennis great one of the biggest inspirations for coming out of adversity to reach to the pinnacle of success. Novak has remained humble with all the success and has been helping young talents to grow in the region and his philanthropy and goodwill reached another height after a recent incident.

“He was the first to congratulate me on my title” Hamad Medjedovic to Novak Djokovic

Hamad Medjedovic, an upcoming teenager from Serbia has been a regular at the Novak Tennis Center and his father Eldin Medjedovic recently revealed how Novak has helped his son to grow in tennis and is basically sponsoring the entire training and other expenses for him. Hamad recently won his maiden Challenger title in Ludenscheid.

“Would you believe who was the first to congratulate me on my title – Novak (Djokovic)! When I picked up my phone, I saw his voice message lasting more than one minute. He is a legend because he is always available for advice – he really wants to help and knows how to listen,” told Hamad to Serbian outlet Sportal.

Apart from the gesture of Djokovic of congratulating an upcoming player, what’s important to note is that Novak sent the message to Hamad before leaving for his 4th round match at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships against the in-form Tim Van Rijthoven. With a tricky encounter ahead of him, Novak nevertheless took out the time to congratulate and wish Hamad showing his larger-than-life persona once again.
