Collin Raye Is Grieving The Death of His Brother, Scotty Wray

Publish date: 2024-07-26

Collin Raye said goodbye to his dearly departed brother Scotty Wray, who passed away in an Arkansas care facility on Friday night, February 18.

The ’90s hitmaker took to social media to pay tribute to his talented musician brother, who is also Miranda Lambert’s longtime guitarist. Collin recalled in his post his last meeting with Scotty just a day before he died. He said he spent hours with his brother – “telling stories, reminiscing and laughing.” He left him believing he would be seeing him again soon.

The same night Scotty passed on, Collin and his band, The Riff Raff, performed in Texarkana. It was a Classic Rock Tribute Show that Scotty was really hoping to see. Sadly, he was too sick to attend, so the “One Boy, One Girl” singer made sure to record the entire performance for him to watch – only to be told that Scotty had died before he took the stage.

Collin Raye Got His Musical Start Together With Scotty Wray

Collin Raye and Scotty Wray started their long musical journey together many years ago. “It is a bond that not everyone can understand,” Collin wrote.

Their mother, Lois Wray, was a local musician who served as an opening act for several music legends such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Jerry Lee Lewis. She would often bring Collin and Scotty on stage to sing harmony vocals. In the 1980s, the two brothers launched a country-rock band called the Wray Brothers Band. The duo mainly performed in the state of Texas and later in Nevada. The band managed to snag a recording contract and released four singles. Unfortunately, their songs performed poorly on the charts, and the duo disbanded.

In 1991, Collin made his debut and became one of the true hit makers of the 1990s – with plenty of Collin Raye songs making it to the chart. Meanwhile, Scotty became successful with his craft when he joined Miranda Lambert‘s band at the start of her career.

Well, here’s to hoping Scotty’s happy memories bring comfort to his family at this sad time.
