Carlos Javier Correa Oppenheimer was born on 22nd September in 1994 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. His parents were Carlos Sr. and Sandybel Oppenheimer. He has a younger brother named Jean Carlos Correa, who also got selected by the Astros in the 2018 MLB draft. Even though his family didn’t earn much, they had a decent amount to build a house by a fishing village in Santa Isabel, Barrio Velázquez, Puerto Rico. As a young as fiver years old, he used to play catch by an alley close to his home which caught the attention of a neighbor who suggested him to enroll in a youth league. His skills in hitting were noticed and he was assigned as a first baseman. His father used to train him everyday during their leisure time. During the age of seven, Carlos had continued his brilliant performance in Santa Isabel’s Playita Cortada American Baseball Congress affiliate, hitting about 150 home runs. After the team got eliminated, Carlos Correa was recruited by the league’s champion, Rio Grande, to play in Atlanta for the championship series. Since Santa Isabel and Rio Grande was quite far from each other, the family had a rough time coping with it. His mother began selling food to earn some amount for the travel but even that wouldn’t make up for it. The people from Santa Isabel started organizing charity games which helped him get some good amount to pay for the travel.
