Anne Frank was a German Jewish diarist. She is one of the most well-known victims of the Holocaust. In hiding from the Nazis in Amsterdam between 1942 and 1944, she was then arrested and died in the Bergen-Belsen camp early the next year. Her diary, kept during her time in hiding, was published by her father, who survived, as The Diary of a Young Girl in 1947. The Anne Frank House, in Prinsengracht, Amsterdam, preserves her memory.

Anne was the daughter of Edith Frank (née Holländer) and Otto Frank, and had a sister, Margot. Her father was born in Frankfurt. Her mother was born in Aachen. Her family moved to Amsterdam in the mid 1930s, because of the Nazi regime in Germany. Her mother died in Auschwitz-Birkenau on 6 January, 1945. Her sister also died in Bergen-Belsen, in 1945. Her cousin was actor Buddy Elias, who was president of Anne Frank Fonds, dedicated to her memory. Her first cousin, once removed, was interior designer Jean-Michel Frank.

Anne’s paternal grandfather was Michael Frank (the son of Zacharias Frank and Barbara Babette Hammelstett/Hammelfett). Michael was born in Landau, Rhineland-Palatinate. Zacharias was the son of Abraham Frank and Justine Gumbert.

Anne’s paternal grandmother was Alice Betty Stern (the daughter of August Heinrich Stern and Cornelia/Cornelie Elisabeth Cahn). Alice was born in Frankfurt Am Main, Regierungsbezirk Darmstad. August was the son of Emanuel/Emmanuel Stern and Helena/Helene Schwarzschild. Cornelia was the daughter of Elkan Juda Cahn and Betty Cahn.

Anne’s maternal grandfather was Abraham Holländer (the son Benjamin Holländer and Sara Menken). Abraham was born in Eschweiler, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, and had a business in industrial equipment. Benjamin was the son of Levy Holländer and Johanna Elkan. Sara was the daughter of Markus/Marx Andreas/Andres Menken and Eva Keller.

Anne’s maternal grandmother was Rosa/Rosalie Stern (the daughter of Joel Stern and Babette/Babetta Wiesenthal). Rosa was born in Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis, Hessen. Babette was the daughter of Herz/Naftali Salomon Wiesenthal and Henriette Meyer, who was born in Lviv, Ukraine.
